Missions
Virginia Heights participates in both local, national, and international missions.
Our WMU is often catalyst within the church for missions. Within the last three years, we have sent a team to Kenya, teams to Standing Rock Indian Reservation along with the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association, as well as supporting the work of the Baptist Mission Centers. Our Philathea Sunday School class leads a Bible study and provides a meal once a month at Baptist Friendship House on Elm Ave, SW.
Currently many Baptist Friendship House teens attend our youth group. Working with them provides insight into the challenges they face everyday. We try to effectively use our resources to empower them and touch their lives in Jesus’ name.
Recently we sent $1,500 along with medical supplies to support the relief efforts in Haiti. Our youth group is preparing to travel for a week in June to complete a mission project in Appalachia. A member of our youth is also planning to travel to Africa for a month long mission project this summer.
Missions are also emphasized on Wednesday night with our children. They learn about Cooperative Baptist Fellowship missionaries who are called to serve God in various places across the country and world.
